SOMETHING entirely DIFFERENT

As usual we conclude our S3 Newsletter with some articles not so closely related to the business world.

Specifically, this time we continue with both the list of big (but little known) Chinese cities and the list of the ten most beautiful national parks in China.

The city of Zhengzhou is located on the right bank of the Yellow River, second only to the Yangtze, China’s most important river.

The metropolitan population is over 12 million and the city is considered by the central government to be one of the most important emerging megacities in the state.

Several universities are based in Zhengzhou.

Henan province is renowned for its various sites of historical significance, including the ruins of Yin, the capital of the Shang Dynasty, and the Shaolin Temple.

In fact, four of China’s eight great ancient capitals are located in this region.

Thanks to government support, Zhengzhou’s economic development has been very rapid, perhaps best illustrated by the construction of one of Foxconn’s largest factories in the city, where almost 130,000 employees assemble among others Apple’s iPhones.

China’s ten most beautiful national parks

We continue our series presenting the 10 most beautiful national parks in China.

Mount Lu or Lu Shan, located in the eastern province of Jiangxi, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.

It is undoubtedly an outstanding place for history, religion, painting and poetry, and boasts a wide variety of natural riches.

In particular, Mount Lu is known in China as the land of letters, the mountain of poems.

Numerous poets have visited it and spoken of it in their works.

Numerous inscriptions are engraved on the rocks and walls of the mountain.

Its landscapes also served as a source of inspiration for various paintings.

One of the four great academies of Confucianism, the White Deer Grotto Academy, is located under the Five Elders’ Peak.

In 1930 Lu Shan became the summer capital of the Nanjing government.

In 1937, Chiang Kai-shek made a proclamation here calling on the people to resist the Japanese occupation.

Mao Zedong chose this mountain to hold three central meetings of the Communist Party of China.
