Keynote speech at the 26th AERCE Annual Congress

Our regular readers will already know what AERCE is and what our connection to this organisation is: it is the Spanish Association of Purchasing, Contracting and Procurement Professionals, in other words, the main state-level organisation for purchasing (and therefore sourcing) managers.

Last year S3 Group had the opportunity to share – on two occasions – our experience and views on the alleged trend that China is no longer the ‘factory of the world’.

We spoke in this regard at the respective ‘AERCE Procurement Days’ in Barcelona and Valencia, respectively during the months of May and December 2022.

It therefore came as no surprise that we were also invited to speak at the AERCE Annual Congress in Madrid, an exceptional honour to be able to address an array of top procurement executives.

The event took place on June 28th (just after the closing of the previous edition of the S3 Newsletter) at the IFEMA – Feria de Madrid.

In this occasion, in line with previous presentations, but to give a slightly different approach, we were asked to focus the presentation on a topic that is also very much on the agenda: ‘Reshoring’: the perfect buyer scenario… or not?.

During our presentation, we evaluated the pros and cons of working with suppliers closer to home, rather than in low-cost countries.

It should be noted that the event was attended by the media, a total of more than 600 purchasing and procurement managers from all over Spain and several highly reputed speakers such as Miquel Serracanta, coordinator in Spain of the Council of Supply Chain Professionals and director of the Master in Supply Chain Management and Logistics at EAE Business School (see image).

To complement our excellent connection with the AERCE team (and mission), S3 Group has decided to become a new corporate partner of the association, a partnership we will report on in more detail in future issues.
