After pointing out the most relevant facets of BYD (automotive), Kweichow Moutai (alcoholic beverages), Tencent (internet and video games), the Sinopec/PetroChina duo (energy) and ICBC (banking), we return to the world of technology, with the largest mobile phone network: that of China Mobile.

As always, when we mention a Chinese company that is the largest in its sector, the figures inevitably make an impact: China Mobile has more than 1,000,000,000 mobile phone customers, which logically makes it the largest company in its sector on a global scale.

The company has been listed for years on both the Shanghai and Hong Kong stock exchanges, one of the world's leading financial markets.

Despite its listing on the stock exchange, it should not be overlooked that it is a state-owned entity, under the control of the Chinese government.

The company was established in 1997, originally under the name China Telecom (Hong Kong), a common procedure in China, demonstrating the strong link between the legal and business systems of Hong Kong and mainland China.

Finally, it is worth noting that - despite its network dominance and customer base in China - the company's international expansion has been hampered by the US considering China Mobile a company with ties to Chinese security agencies, so its global development has been limited by US sanctions.
